Quick Facts About the COURSE
Career Outlook
The job of an interior designer involves far more than simply picking out paint and furniture. Because a designer’s job is to create a space that’s safe and functional in addition to being lovely, the design process involves a multitude of steps that must be taken before carpet is laid or drapes are hung. After the consulting and planning stages, sketches and diagrams must be made. Then furnishings, fixtures, and other materials must be ordered, with the designer overseeing the delivery and installation of all the elements. Depending on the size and scope of the project, the designer might work closely with architects, engineers, and builders to ensure that the final design is perfect and that the client is satisfied.
Because new buildings pop up on a regular basis and older structures are always being renovated, the need for interior designers should remain steady. So while general design services will always be in demand, designers who specialize in kitchens and bathrooms, office spaces, or hotels, for example, might find themselves with even greater job opportunities.
